When the weekend comes and you want the hills, two names top the list from Islamabad: Murree and Nathia Gali. They are close together, both cool and green, and both lovely in the snow, but the experience is quite different. Here is an honest comparison to help you pick.
Distance and access
Murree is closer, about 1.5 hours from Islamabad on the expressway. Nathia Gali is about 2.5 hours, carrying on past Murree into the Galiyat. If you want the quickest possible hill trip, Murree wins on distance alone.
Crowds and character
This is the real difference. Murree is the busy, commercial hill station: the Mall Road, endless hotels and food, the Patriata chairlift and cable car, and a lively, touristy buzz. It also gets very crowded, especially on weekends and after the first snow, with real traffic jams. Nathia Gali is the opposite: quieter, greener, wrapped in pine forest, with a calmer, more natural feel.
