Fairy Meadows

Fairy Meadows is a grass shelf at ~3,300 m staring straight into the Raikot face of Nanga Parbat — the ninth-highest mountain on earth rising three vertical miles above the meadow. Getting there is famously part of the story: a white-knuckle jeep track cut into the cliffs above Raikot Bridge, then a few hours on foot through pine forest.

The reward is the most theatrical campsite in Pakistan. Wooden cabins and tents scatter the meadow edge, the Killer Mountain fills the sky, and at night the Milky Way does what city dwellers forget it can. Beyal, an hour and a half further, is the quieter shelf; the Nanga Parbat viewpoint beyond it is the day hike everyone should make.

Infrastructure is deliberately thin — no road, no ATMs, patchy signal, cold nights even in August. A local host who books the jeep, the cabins and the guide ahead turns the logistics from gamble to routine.

Reach Raikot Bridge on the Karakoram Highway — roughly 450–470 km from Islamabad, most comfortably via Naran and Babusar Top in high summer, or the full KKH with a night in Besham or Chilas. Private cars park at the bridge.

From Raikot Bridge only the local jeeps run the track to Tato village (about an hour and a quarter of legend). From Tato it is a 5 km, two-to-four-hour walk up to the meadows; horses can be hired for bags or riders.
